Vertebrate Gastrulation: Separation Is Sticky and Tense
نویسندگان
چکیده
During vertebrate gastrulation, cells separate into different germ layers. A recent study investigates and quantifies the roles of cell adhesion and cortical tension during germ layer formation in zebrafish.

Profilin is an effector for Daam1 in non-canonical Wnt signaling and is required for vertebrate gastrulation.
Non-canonical Wnt signaling plays important roles during vertebrate embryogenesis and is required for cell motility during gastrulation. However, the molecular mechanisms of how Wnt signaling regulates modification of the actin cytoskeleton remain incompletely understood. We had previously identified the Formin homology protein Daam1 as an important link between Dishevelled and the Rho GTPase f...
متن کاملZebrafish gastrulation movements: bridging cell and developmental biology.
During vertebrate gastrulation, large cellular rearrangements lead to the formation of the three germ layers, ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm. Zebrafish offer many genetic and experimental advantages for studying vertebrate gastrulation movements. For instance, several mutants, including silberblick, knypek and trilobite, exhibit defects in morphogenesis during gastrulation. The identification ...
متن کاملVertebrate Gastrulation: Polarity Genes Control the Matrix
The PCP signaling cascade controls polarized cell behaviors in various organisms. New evidence suggests that this signaling cascade also controls the deposition of extracellular matrix during vertebrate gastrulation.
متن کاملCoactivation of Rac and Rho by Wnt/Frizzled signaling is required for vertebrate gastrulation.
Wnt/Frizzled (Fz) signaling controls cell polarity/movements during vertebrate gastrulation via incompletely defined mechanisms. We demonstrated previously that Wnt/Fz activation of Rho, a GTPase and regulator of cytoskeletal architecture, is essential for vertebrate gastrulation. Here we report that in mammalian cells and Xenopus embryos, Wnt/Fz signaling coactivates Rho and Rac, another GTPas...
متن کاملMouse gastrulation: the formation of a mammalian body plan
The process of gastrulation is a pivotal step in the formation of the vertebrate body plan. The primary function of gastrulation is the correct placement of precursor tissues for subsequent morphogenesis. There is now mounting evidence that the body plan is established through inductive interactions between germ layer tissues and by the global patterning activity emanating from embryonic organi...
